BIM Integration for the B27 Bridge Replacement in Kornwestheim Nears Completion

The implementation of the BIM methodology for the replacement of the B27 bridge in Kornwestheim has entered its final project phase. Together with Leonhard Weiss, we are supporting the project’s digital delivery and laying the foundation for sustainable, future-oriented asset management.

Based on conventionally prepared design documents and highly accurate drone surveying data, we developed the required environmental, transportation infrastructure, demolition, and construction models. These models formed the basis for the successful implementation of BIM Use Cases AwF 120 through AwF 190, supporting all project stakeholders throughout the construction process.

From Existing Conditions Model to Digital Twin

The project is currently being finalized through the creation of the As-Built Model. This digital representation of the completed structure enables the direct integration of bridge record data with the BIM model, thereby fulfilling the requirements of AwF 190. The result is a valuable digital twin that provides a reliable foundation for future operations, maintenance, and long-term infrastructure asset management.

This project demonstrates that it is never too late to successfully integrate BIM into an ongoing construction project. By rapidly and accurately modeling existing planning and surveying data, significant digital value was created within a short period of time, supporting project delivery while establishing the basis for the bridge’s future lifecycle management.

We would like to thank the team at Leonhard Weiss for their trust, collaboration, and the successful partnership throughout this project.
