B14-Tunnel

In the heart of Stuttgart, a complex piece of infrastructure is taking shape while traffic continues to flow above.

A recent video by the Stuttgart–Ulm rail project provides fascinating insights into the construction work on the underpass beneath Gebhard-Müller-Platz and into a project in which BuP. Boll Beraten und Planen plays a key role in the planning and engineering.

The existing B14 underpass at Gebhard-Müller-Platz is being extended northwards while also undergoing extensive refurbishment. Around 470 metres of trough and tunnel structures combine complex construction phases, work on existing structures and the challenges of maintaining traffic throughout the construction period. At the same time, the project aims to create new above-ground spaces for cyclists and pedestrians, as well as an attractive forecourt for the southern entrance to Stuttgart’s future main railway station.

BuP. Boll Beraten und Planen is responsible for the structural and civil engineering design of this challenging infrastructure project, including the integration of the new structures into the existing infrastructure. For the existing tunnel and the southern ramp, we have also prepared a comprehensive refurbishment design on behalf of the City of Stuttgart. The latest video vividly illustrates the complexity of the construction work: while the western tunnel section has already been completed and opened to traffic, work is continuing on the eastern side. At the same time, floor slabs, walls and roof slabs for the new tunnel section are being constructed, while work on the excavation pit and the existing structure is also progressing.

From planning to reality: The video offers a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the project and shows how, step by step, the plans are becoming a new piece of Stuttgart’s infrastructure.
